Toilets sign design

Because they’re often a relief,
because beauty starts from simple designs around us,
because a woman and a man can be made in so many ways,
Kwoa proudly presents:

Toilets sign photo gallery (60 designs so far)

Pictures were taken by Kwoa all around Shanghai and beyond. This gallery is a never ending work in progress, with new pictures added periodically.

Quick random statistics:
  • 10/55 show women gender on the left (5 pictures were recomposed)
  • 4/60 show wheelchair for disabled (Shanghai Disneyland hotel sign had wheelchair above, unseen here)
  • 26 / 60 have filled symbol and not contour
  • 42 / 60 have closed symbols and not discontinued shapes (neck aside)
  • 12 / 60 have a neck (head linked with body)
  • 10 / 60 have hair (yes, rabbit ears count!)
  • 1/60 show actual toilets
  • 5/60 do not show actual person
  • 3/60 does not use clothing or hair to differentiate gender
  • 3/60 are not just standing

For further exploration into toilets and design, we warmly recommend Dezeen website (not a sponsored link, a genuine recommendation!).

If you like these photos as much as we do, and want to use high definition version for commercial purpose (+5mpx), please contact Effy for licensing opportunities.
